ST. LOUIS, Feb. 6, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Centene Corporation (NYSE: CNC) unveiled its exhibit and a 10-year sponsorship of $150,000 with Junior Achievement of Greater St. Louis with a ribbon cutting ceremony on Thursday, February 5. Over 80 students from Riverview Gardens School District were in attendance for the day.
"Junior Achievement is pleased to welcome Centene as our latest sponsor of JA Finance Park," said Lori Jacob, Junior Achievement President and CEO. "Understanding how health insurance works is essential for planning a household budget. This new storefront will add a fundamental element to our students' learning experience."
Centene developed a multi-media exhibit for students to learn about the various aspects of health insurance, and how to best select coverage. The exhibit features an interactive website with a health information questionnaire so students can learn how to select a health plan that best meets their financial and lifestyle needs. It also educates students about the various job opportunities within a health-related industry.
"It is our responsibility as a health insurance company to also be educators of health literacy," said Michael F. Neidorff, Chairman, President and CEO for Centene. "In addition to educating the students on insurance, they also learn about the various job opportunities within the company and the health care industry. You don't have to be a doctor or nurse to help others take control of their health -- we have accountants, communicators and information technology professionals helping our members every day. These students will be able to take what they learn about health insurance and share it with their family and friends. This is one way we can help to transform the health of our community, one person at a time."
In addition to the ribbon cutting ceremony, Michael Neidorff was inducted into Junior Achievement's Hall of Fame for his continued support of St. Louis area organizations.
